Utes 14, Trojans 23--Utes lose but buckle up

Wow…talk about mixed feelings.  On one side I’m terribly disappointed to come back from oblivion so many times only to be turned away by a blocked field goal on the last play of the game.  On the other hand, that felt like Utah football.  They Utes played tough defense, made big plays, stayed in the game and Jordan Wynn, despite being very imperfect, kept punching back.  I’ve got my chin up….This is just the beginning.
The potential is there…..There is plenty of reason for optimism.  Jordan Wynn will get better.  He’s throwing off his back foot, staring down receivers, turning his back to the line of scrimmage to evade the rush (I’VE NEVER SEEN THAT) and not getting rid of the ball on time….all correctable.  This offense is only going to get better and it only needs to get a little better with how the Utes are playing defense.
The Utes are right in this thing.

Welcome to the new world where you no longer have to go undefeated.  We have to win a division.  Do that and we play a championship game for entry to the Rose Bowl.  This is a marathon folks.  Keep your chin up…I’m getting a championship vibe.
NEXT up:  YBU….or is that BYU?  I can’t remember.

  2. Overall, the Utes played a good game. I was worried going into the game. I was thinking we're playing USC at home, which is really, our first Pac-12 game, excluding last week's victory against Montana State (a Division II team).

I agree with what you said; the Utes played pretty good. The offense went on to score a couple touchdowns while the defense forced three turnovers. I went crazy when Jordan Wynn turned his back to the line those few times (what was he thinking?). Still, I understand that he threw some solid passes and went on to help the Utes score their two total touchdowns.

I've been watching the Utes since I was a little kid, and I've came to notice something. Utah's two-minute offense is clutch. That last minute that they had the ball, they were moving it down the field. If time would've permitted, a touchdown probably would've been the result. It's frustrating that the previous two possession's before their final minute stretch, the Utes weren't even able to earn a first down. Then all of a sudden, it's like they realize they need to score and they almost do so. Overall, Utah needs to play like they're down with a minute to go the entire game. If they did that, Utah would never lose. That last minute, they got it down to the 20-yard line.

Anyway, good post. Sorry for the long comment. It's just this was one of the craziest games I've seen in a while, which was expected now being in the Pac-12. The last minute was insane; especially when they reviewed/remeasured the mark of the ball on the line at twenty seconds to give the Utes another shot with a first down.

One other thing to note: The score was a little misleading. The end blocked field goal resulted in a USC touchdown, but the final score was pretty much Utah 14, USC 17

  3. I love the Utes. The muss is the only place to be when the Utah Utes are home. Painted faces multitudes jumping up and down. Not being able to hear yourself think. There in nothing better for a Saturday afternoon. I watched this game at home and I almost had an aneurysm. I like your overoptimism for the offence and you made some good points. I just hope Jay-Dub (Jordan Wynn) can get his mind right and quick.
